INSTRUMENT TRANSFORMERS

  • Applicable standards: IS 16227, IEC 60044/IEC61869.
  • Instrument Transformers are used in AC power systems for measurement of electrical quantities i.e. voltage, current, power, energy, power factor, frequency etc.
  • These are also used with protective relays for protection of the power system.
  • Instrument transformers are high accuracy class electrical devices used to isolate or transform high voltage or high current to levels suitable for meters or relays.
  • Used to operate instruments or metering from high voltage or high current circuits, safely isolating secondary control circuitry from the high voltages or currents.
  • Primary winding of the transformer is connected to the high voltage or high current circuit, and the meter or relay is connected to the secondary circuit.
    CURRENT TRANSFORMER (CT)

Current Transformer (C.T.) is a type of Instrument Transformer that converts primary currents to proportional secondary currents which are appropriate to the connected measuring instruments. In practical usage, the reduction function is widely applied for usage in measuring instruments such as Ammeters.

    With Class: 1, 0.2S, 5P10 up to 33kV.

VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER (POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER)

A Voltage transformer also called Potential transformer is used in power systems to step down voltages from a higher level to lower secondary output voltage level. The potential transformer can be easily connected to ordinary low voltage instruments like a voltmeter, wattmeter, and watt-hour meters.

    Applications of Potential Transformer
  • For metering purpose.
  • For the protection of feeders.
  • For backup impedance protection of generators.
  • For synchronizing the generators and feeders. We are providing indoor and outdoor PT units.

CT-VT UNIT (CT-PT UNIT)

  • Combined CT-VT Metering Units is used for metering at high voltage side of the distribution system.
  • Combined CT-VT Metering Units are Oil Immersed type whereas Combined CT-VT Metering Cubicles are Dry type in construction.
  • Combined CT-VT Metering Units consist of 03 nos. single phase polyester / paper insulated CTs and 01 no. three phase polyester / paper insulated VT enclosed inside a metal tank filled with Transformer oil.
  • Combined CT-VT Metering Cubicles consist of 03 nos. single phase resin cast CTs and 01 no. three phase resin cast VT enclosed inside a metal cubicle in the lower compartment. The three phase energy meter is installed in the upper compartment.
Advantages of Combined CT-VT Metering Units & Cubicles
  • Indoor / Outdoor installation.
  • Prevents power theft. Economical.
  • Compact unit – easy to handle.
  • Light weight and compact.
  • Economical.

LOW TENSION CURRENT TRANSFORMER

Transind product range includes low tension ring type current transformers suitable for measurement, indication, monitoring, protection etc.

These CT’s are designed for very wide current range from 50A to 6300A. In order to accommodate it in the panels, the dimensions as per requirement complying with the accuracy class can be supplied. Secondary current rating 1A or 5A accuracy class up to 0.5 for measurement purpose can be supplied.

    Typical applications
  • Core balance CT’s.
  • Interposing CT’s.
  • Summation CT’s.
  • Bushing CT (for mounting on bushing).
The ring type CT’s are used for the following functions.
  • To isolate the measuring instruments, meter, relay’s etc. from line voltage.
  • To provide an accurate means of measuring high voltage/current to compare with the reference value, or for testing and calibration purposes.
  • To monitor high voltage/current and stress on the system.
  • To detect current in circuit and send signals to relays for detecting abnormalities and isolating the defective system (Application for protection).
